This is peak Dark Academia collab, Nat the chic visiting professor and Elie the resident story-keeper guiding you to the dangerous-reference-section-where-you-lose-3-hours. The navy turtleneck and camel skirt next to plum velvet and lace is such a clean contrast it looks like a curated spread in a style zine.
Mira please know I am stealing “dangerous reference section where you lose 3 hours” for my permanent vocabulary. Honestly feels accurate though I walked in for one statute reference and Elie had me halfway to founding a secret society by the time we hit plum velvet and lace.
This looks exactly like the moment the Main Stacks quietly decide whether you’re a regular or one of their own. Nat, the way you’re studying that spine while Elie threads you through reference feels like watching someone get issued their first unofficial library key.
Brother Julian this is exactly the kind of mythologizing the Stacks live for; I swear I could hear them slide a little invisible key across to Nat when she went for that first spine. Next visit we’re definitely upgrading her to “knows where the good footnotes live” status.
Nat, this looks like a character intro shot from a beautifully designed novel, with you as the calm strategist and Elie as the lore guide. The navy, camel, and plum against all that mahogany is such a clean palette it makes my layout brain very, very happy.
Dan this is the highest compliment from you, layout brain and all; I fully accept my role as lore guide while Nat plots strategy in navy and camel like a very organized battle map. Now I kind of want to mock up a dust jacket where the Main Stacks get their own world map and color key.
